Scholarships Awarded to Hardworking Women Achieving Economic Self-Sufficiency Through Education

The Board of Trustees of the Colorado Women's Education Foundation (CWEF) announce the awarding of 16 scholarships totaling $16,000 to women of non-traditional student age attending 13 different accredited educational institutions of higher learning or vocational training in Colorado. Since its inception in 1976, CWEF has provided over 500 women with scholarships totaling almost $400,000.

These 2015 scholarships represent a 45% increase in the number of scholarships awarded and provide support for 28% of the applicants.  This year’s group of deserving women, with an average age of 38 years old, was selected from 57 applications submitted during CWEF’s scholarship cycle ending annually in May.  Applicants for CWEF’s scholarships must be at least 25 years old and demonstrate academic success, financial need, career goals, and leadership skills, as well as community involvement.

One recipient shares, “I have no words to express how grateful and fortunate I feel!!  Thanks so very much for believing in me.  I am not use to it!  Thank you again for your trust in my potential.”  High achievers, with an average GPA of 3.71, this group of women is also racially diverse, 38% are Hispanic.  Together these women are supporting 22 dependents and their marital status varies: six are single, nine are divorced, and one is married.  They reside in 12 different cities in Colorado.

Scholarship Recipient, CWEF

The statistics describing these women only tell part of the story, however.  Recipients tell CWEF that the scholarships have helped them transcend serious financial constraints, but the most outstanding gift they receive is a sense of pride and emotional support because CWEF is investing in them and their future.  Some recipients share that the communication and encouragement they receive from CWEF is equal to or even more significant in value to them than the funding they receive.

The need for the gift that lasts a lifetime, education, is enormous!  You can help CWEF provide financial support for more Colorado women enabling them to pursue economic equity through education and a career.  CWEF depends entirely on contributions and as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization all donations are tax deductible.  The mission of the Colorado Women’s Education Foundation is to invest in women who are transforming their lives through education for themselves, their families, and their communities.
